The personal introduction is best. For example, I would be happy to take you and your friend or colleague to lunch or to a coffee house to get acquainted. The more you can tell your referral about your experience with me, the better.

A far distant second to that would be to simply give your friend my name and number. But I've found doing only that rarely results in people contacting me because people don't get around to it, despite their best intentions. So if you really want to introduce your friend to sustainable investing and our services, a personal introduction is better.

More about networking and referrals:

  • You can help change the world by getting more people and their money involved in the socially responsible investing movement.

  • We like working with people like you and people you like!

  • Who do you know that might agree with our business philosophy

  • You probably don't know all the details of your friends' and colleagues' finances. We only ask that you consider whether the household or organization is likely to meet our account criteria for investment services.

According to the results of the recent CFP Board Survey... In order of priority, here are the catalysts that prompt investors to seek professional guidance:

  1. Receiving an inheritance/windfall 73%

  2. Increasing complexity of investments 62%

  3. Portfolio growth 52%

  4. Need to make 401(k) distribution decisions 52%

  5. Loss of assets as a result of own trading/investing 43%

  6. Market downturns 35%

  7. Change in marital status 32%

  8. Change in job status 24%

  9. Birth of a child 19%

When you have thought of the name of one person you know who is possibly dealing with one of these things, please contact me.

Also according to the survey, people initiate financial planning to accomplish the following goals:

  1. Build a retirement fund 82%

  2. Purchase/renovate home 41%

  3. Build an emergency fund 40%

  4. Manage/reduce current debt 34%

  5. Vacation/travel 34%

  6. Build a college fund 32%

  7. Accumulate capital 31%

  8. Provide insurance protection 29%

  9. Shelter income from taxes 26%

  10. Generate current income 25%

Again, when you have thought of the name of one person you know who is possibly dealing with one of these things, please contact me.

We do not spam, cold call, telemarket, or send junk mail to your referrals. We simply and politely contact them to see if they are interested in learning more about our services. If they are not interested, we will not contact them again.
